Strp, Kotor, Crna Gora
Kotor is a coastal town in Montenegro located in the Bay of Kotor. The old town with its stunning city walls is under UNESCO protection as a world cultural heritage site. The first memories of Kotor date back to the 168 years BC called Ascrivium, when it was part of the Roman province of Dalmatia. Today's name Kotor was given in the IX century. The number of inhabitants within the walls of the Old Town is about 1300, while the whole municipality has around 23000 inhabitants. Kotor is surrounded by cliffs of Orijen and Lovćen on one side and a beautiful bay on the other. It is considered one of the most magnificent landscapes on the Mediterranean peninsula and many call it the southernmost fjord in Europe. The architecture of the Old Town is under Venetian influence, considering that it belonged to the Venetian Republic from the beginning of the 15th to the end of the 18th century. If you want to feel the spirit of the Middle Ages, you can still find an apartment or suite within the old walls at reasonable prices. Kotor is also known as a city of merchants and famous sailors, and there are many testimonies of its turbulent history kept in the Kotor Museum. In its medieval surroundings, the city is full of luxury restaurants and romantic cafes, and every year various cultural events, carnivals and festivities are held, so this is an unavoidable destination for tourists. It is connected to all coastal cities of Montenegro by the main road that leads along the bay. Tivat Airport is 15 km away.
